You are required to write and submit an individual 3000-word Management Report, based on the following scenario:
You are a manager working in a health system which is responsible for delivering care to patients. You have been asked by the Health Board to provide evidence on a proven innovation which is being used to improve patient care (which must include consideration of clinical effectiveness, patient safety and/or patient experience) and will reduce costs in one specific area; for example: reducing waiting time, length of stay or medication error, emergency care (triaging), e-prescription, infection/disease prevention and control, sanitation and hygiene (from public health perspective) etc.
You are required to submit the Management Report to the Health Board drawing on evidence of management theories, tools, and models to support the implementation of this innovation in the health system. Within this report you must:
i. Use a structure appropriate for a Management Report, including title page, table of contents, list of tables, and list of figures.
ii. Provide an executive summary at the beginning of the Management Report.
iii. Provide an introduction to the Management Report and a context for the proposed innovation.
iv. Define the proposed innovation (What is the innovation), providing justification for your choice using and critically analysing evidence from the academic literature to evaluate the potential impact of this innovation, from a systems perspective; identifying patient/user benefits and cost-benefit. (Why is this innovation proven?)
v. Provide an implementation plan; applying relevant leadership and management concepts, theories, tools and models to critically analyse and present what strategies and activities you would use to guide the implementation of this innovation. Consider this from systems, power, culture and change management perspectives. (Implementation)
vi. Use relevant theories, tools and models from systems leadership to identify how successful implementation of the innovation will be measured (How will you know it’s been successful?)
vii. Provide conclusion/recommendations, list of references and appendices.
