Write the research paper based on the video you selected in Part 1

Your research must relate to your reactions. Do not simply copy and paste random facts or terms. Use the internet, physical sources, or CCBC subscribed databases to research terms, artists, or cultures. Only use credible websites. In this course, credible websites are defined as sites created by credentialed institutions and authors. Cite any information in MLA format. You must have a minimum of three (3) sources.

For the dance selected you should include at least 3 sections. The first section will describe your initial reaction. In other words, what did you actually feel and think when you first looked at this dance work? In the second section, present your research. Then, present a concluding section which explains how your perspective has been affected by your research.

Your final paper should be a minimum of three (3) pages in length.

Remember to focus on the following ideas:

What does the dance mean to you? What do you think the dance is “about”?
How does the movement use of the Elements of Dance (space, time, and energy/force) to create meaning in the work for you?
Describe and comment on the music. Consider the following questions: did the music play an important role in the dance, and did the music influence the form of the dance or vice versa?
Research about the dance you watch and the culture/time period. How does the movement create a greater understanding of the culture/history?

When writing your paper, remember that quality descriptions reflect much thought. This can only be accomplished if it is done with honesty, time, and consideration. To create quality conclusions, you must take time to reflect on your reactions.

Don’t forget to edit and proofread your writing. When writing about dance, word choice is often particularly difficult. Utilize your text, a glossary, or a thesaurus to hone your choices. Avoid vague terms. For example, “pretty movement” is too general. In contrast, “the dancers swooped through each other as their arms reached toward the sky” is specific and descriptive. Utilize the Elements of Dance as a way to describe movement thinking about how space, time and energy/force were used in the work.

Your Final Paper is due during Week 10 of the Course.
