As far as the collage my images are fairly generic, he wants us to explain what each picture means to us on the first page. I am including my pitbull, my boyfriend, my family which is the center of my world (mom, dad, older sister, older brother, and younger sister), something science-related, something about education because my parents have always emphasized the importance of college education and I love being a tutor being able to help other students, and an image of a painting by the album cover of my dad’s favorite album in Spanish – Canciones de Mi Padre by Linda Ronstadt. My family is the most important thing in the world to me and I want nothing more than to make my parents proud, my dad and I bonded a lot through him teaching me about his childhood music in Spanish. I included an image of my favorite hike and a beach in Mexico which are my happy places.

Info. about myself to write the assignment – I am the daughter of two Mexican immigrants, first-generation college student majoring in Biology. I grew up in a low-income household heavily influenced by Mexican culture and speaking Spanish as my first language. Mexican culture is heavily collectivist (versus the individualism of the U.S.), I’ve always been torn between these two identities. I am in a committed relationship, own a pit bull with my partner. I would say I express very feminine traits; I am nurturing, responsible, and compassionate which is due to being raised in a Mexican household in which women take care of their younger siblings and men of the house. One is responsible for cleaning up after their brothers for example and taking care of younger siblings and cousins. My parents are slightly more progressive because they encourage my sisters and me to get an education and be independent (not depend on men). I have an older sister (26 years old, an older brother (32 years old), and a younger sister (17 years old). I am extremely close to all of my siblings and especially my younger sister.
I try to find a balance between collectivism and individualism because I want to be successful in the individualistic culture of the U.S. but morally, I believe in the collectivist culture of Mexico and communities caring for one another.
