Objectives of the Research Proposal
The purpose of this assignment is to propose a research topic, research question, and thesis statement, using clear, succinct writing. You will also address your research question and substantiate/support your thesis statement with scholarly sources and analytical writing.
REQUIRED ELEMENTS FOR THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Read the scholarly sources in your annotated bibliography that address your research question and support your thesis statement.
State your topic. Your topic must be related to one of the Fall term course topics and must be on the topic of gendered racism.
Critically and analytically address your research question and support your thesis statement using the 6 scholarly sources annotated in your bibliography. In addition, you may use other readings from the course.
Technical Writing: correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure; succinct, clear writing that adheres to the length requirements of the assignment; correct APA referencing and annotated bibliography
1. TOPIC (One to two sentences, ¼ page maximum)
State your topic in one or two clear, succinct sentences at the beginning of the paper. Make sure that the topic is very clear. Explain, in your own words, why the topic is important to the study of gendered violence.
If you are unsure about your topic, please attend an office hour.
2. RESEARCH QUESTION (1/2 page maximum)
State your research question in your own words in one clear, succinct sentence. Explain in your own words how the research question is related to your topic and why it is important to the study of gendered violence.
3. THESIS STATEMENT (1/2 page maximum)
Compose a clear and succinct thesis statement, in one or two sentences, related to your topic. Make sure the thesis statement is clear and stated in your own words. The thesis statement must be defensible using the scholarly literature in your annotated bibliography. Explain in your own words how your thesis statement is related to your topic and why it is important to the study of gendered violence.
A thesis statement is your central argument for the paper. Your thesis statement should be succinct, focused, and coherent.
4. CRITICAL ANALYSIS IN SUPPORT OF YOUR THESIS STATEMENT (6 ¾ pages maximum)
Using the 6 scholarly sources in your annotated bibliography, answer and discuss your research question, and support and discuss your thesis statement. Use the scholarly sources in your annotated bibliography to answer your research question and support your thesis statement. Make sure throughout this section of your paper, you explain, in your own words, how the scholarly sources you are using answer your research question and support your thesis statement. In this way you develop your own critical analytical skills, and your writing skills. Personal examples or examples from your own life cannot be used in this assignment.
Avoid lengthy quotes and lengthy paraphrasing, but adhere to academic integrity in the use of other authors’ words and ideas.

5. INTERSECTIONAL ANALYSIS (One page)
Describe, explain, and apply an intersectional analysis to your topic. You may integrate the intersectional analysis into section #4 or write it in a separate page. Make sure that at least one page of your Research Proposal includes an intersectional analysis of your topic related to gendered violence. Explain how the intersectional analysis informs your knowledge of your topic and of gendered violence.
6. TECHNICAL WRITING
The Research Proposal must be written in essay form. Do not use headings. All the required components should flow together as one essay, a coherent whole.
Use APA referencing style.
You are encouraged to use first-person “I” statements when you write your assignments. In this way, you identify your own views and situate yourself in the discussion.
