You will be assigned a topic (STI or contraceptive) to research and present to the class. Reminder: You were given an opportunity to select three possible topics when you turned in the orientation assignment. Within the first two weeks of the semester your topic was confirmed on the opening page of the course.
You will present the topic in the first person; as if you were the person with the STI OR if you were the person using this contraceptive method with your partner. Assume the class knows absolutely nothing about your topic. Not writing in the first person will result in a ten point deduction from your paper. If you are presenting a contraceptive method that your opposite gender would use (and anatomically you can not) inform the class how your partner is doing. For example, if you are male and the topic is diaphragm – present how your wife/girlfriend uses this, etc.
In the body of your four page paper*, at a minimum you will address the questions listed below. Be creative and write this as if you were on the lecture circuit sharing first-hand information to a college audience. Use appropriate language (no slang). Note the length of the paper is small (only four pages – not including title page, references and graphics/pictures). Therefore, you will be writing a fact-packed paper.
*The title, reference page and graphics/images are not counted in this four page minimum.
You will use at least six different references** (not using Wikipedia, an encyclopedia nor a dictionary); one book, three articles from the CCBC database and two internet sources (.edu and .gov only do NOT use .com or .org). If you find a web site other than .gov or .edu that you believe is a good source you MUST get the professor’s approval to use it by the rough draft deadline. Use APA format. You will also cite your references in the body of the paper and in a reference page at the end of your paper. Sources cannot be older than five years. This is science – current references are mandatory.
