Final Summary Paper
No Late Final Summary Papers Accepted. Students Must Use Turnitin.com for their final summary papers. This means you will need to submit your paper in Submit Assignments and Turnitin.com.
A Summary Paper is due not later than the 11:59 p.m. (ET) of Sunday of Week 8.
The purpose of the paper is for you to share with me the most critical insights and useful skills you have gained from this course. It should not focus on what you already knew or practiced as a leader, but rather it should explain how you can build upon that foundation to develop yourself in specific and effective ways.
Paper needs to include an introduction and conclusion paragraphs. Within the introduction you must include a thesis statement. A thesis statement is one where you take a position or view on a topic and support it with evidence. In your conclusion paragraph you must pull all of your ideas together and illustrate how you have demonstrated the thesis statement throughout the paper.
You will need to select 3 topics from the list below. Be certain to provide evidence of the usefulness of terms and ideas from the course reading materials to your understanding or practice of leadership by applying them in your work or other group/team experiences (such as volunteer, civic, or religious groups). Remember to include the text and page reference (in parenthesis) at the end of a sentence when using a term or idea from one of the readings.

-Similarities and differences in the four leadership approaches
-Differences between Trait, Skills, Behavioral, and Situational Approach to Leadership

-Servant Leadership Model
-Major components of Leader Member Exchange Theory

-Leadership ethics in today’s workplace
-You may use topics outside of this list with the approval of the instructor.
-Paper must be in a polished final form. Grammar and spelling errors will reduce your grade.
-Summary paper grading rubrics are located in Course Policies.

Final Summary Paper Grading Method
A-A/B (30-27 points) The paper is clear, engaging, original, and focused; ideas and content are richly developed with details and examples. Organization and form enhance the central idea and theme; ideas are presented coherently to move the reader through the text. The voice of the writer is compelling and conveys the writer’s meaning through effective sentence structure and precise word choices. The adult learner successfully moves the paper through academic constructs and experiential documentation to critical analysis. The paper demonstrates a clear balance of these three components.
B (26-24 points) The paper is reasonably clear, focused, and well supported; ideas are adequately developed through details and examples. Organization and form are appropriate, and ideas are generally presented coherently. The voice of the writer contributes to the writer’s meaning through appropriate and varied sentence structure and word choices. Surface features do not interfere with understanding or distract from meaning. The adult learner has clearly brought the reader through properly cited academic constructs and experiential documentation, but has not fully developed the area of critical analysis.
B/C – C (23-21 points) The paper has some focus and support; ideas and content may be developed with limited details and examples. The writing may be somewhat disorganized or too obviously structured. The voice of the writer is generally absent; basic sentence structure and limited vocabulary convey a simple message. Surface feature errors may reduce understanding and interfere with meaning. The content areas of academic constructs are limited, and large generalizations are made. Critical analysis is all but absent from the paper.
C/D (20-18 points) The paper has little focus and development; ideas and content are supported by few details and examples. There is little discernible shape and no direction. The writer’s tone is flat. Awkward sentence structure and inadequate vocabulary interfere with understanding. Limited control of surface features makes paper difficult to read. Demonstrated critical analysis is absent, and often-long portions of the paper are given to rambling of life experience without academic context.
F (17 points and below) The paper demonstrates very little understanding of the final summary paper requirements. It doesn’t have any shape or direction. There isn’t any critical analysis present and it contains numerous spelling and grammatical errors.
There are no Incompletes/Extensions given in online courses.
